Connie was very musically talented and before joining the WRNS in 1943 she toured with a group called The Severn Elliots (she hailed from Bristol) entertaining the troops.
In 1943 Connie joined the WRNS and was sent to Westfield Southsea (Portsmouth) to train. She then moved on to LCI's and LCB's on the river Hamble as a Teleprinter Operator in the preparation for D-Day.
Until COVID stopped her, Connie was a volunteer aboard Brunel's SS Great Britain at the Bristol docks where she played the piano for visitors.
Connie also holds the record for being the oldest person for climbing the ship's rigging, which she achieved when she was 'just' ninety one!
Then, when she was ninety three she climbed Mount Vesuvius in Italy!!
Connie is currently the Chairperson for the Bristol Branch of the WRNS
